Grow Your Blog

Hi old and new blogger friends.  We are here today to tell a little about ourselves and increase are readership and followes.  This is being hosted by Vicki at 2 Bags Full.  You can read all about it HERE and go check out all the participants.

My name is Linda and I am 64 years old.  I have been married to the love of my life for 21 years.  We have 10 cats - Mr. D, Morris, Miss Murphy, Moon Dragon, Midnite, Mocha, Sparky, Snowflake, Smeegol and Sassy.  We also have 2 not so small miniature Schnauzers - Max and Rocky.  We live in California in the sierra foothills.  I am a 19 year breast cancer survivor.

I taught myself to knit in the mid 60's in high school.  I made a small ripple blanket and never wove in the ends so it sorta had fringe on one side.  I made a sweater and a couple vests.  I got married in 1970 and taught myself to do needlepoint.  I have done several pieces. I also do latch hook rugs and I love to put jigsaw puzzles together.  In 1972 I taught myself to crochet.  I have made over 300 items including baby clothes, toys but 75% afghans/blankets.  I bought a book called Lacy Granny Squares and it became my favorite square to crochet.  I have made over 3,000 of these squares.  (that is Morris in the pic)

First needlepoint piece.

In the mid 80's my than LNS owner finally convinced me to try counted cross stitch.  I had always resisted saying I couldn't see those little tiny holes.  lol    Still today I remember stitching the first piece.   Again I am self taught.  I found the center got started but for the life of me I could not poke the needle in the hole from the back to the front.  I finally had to turn the fabric back and forth as I stitched.  About half way through I could do it without having to turn the fabric.  1500 kits and 1000 charts later you might say I am obsessed.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my blog and become a follower.

Thanks for looking.   Linda

Ha! Someone with more cats than me (I only have 6)! Thanks for sharing about your start in cross stitching. I'd forgotten how challenging it was at first to find that hole on the backside. :)

Isn't it fun to think back when we started stitching and how far we have come.

My goodness, you have a whole lot of stitching going on. I only do small projects now. And like to do things with only one color. And no backstitching. :) And you got a lot of feline friends, too. Wow! I've been with my husband 21 years. We have one cat and that's more than enough for him. :) Best wishes, Tammy

Nice to meet you Linda! Self taught is always impressive. Recently tried to learn to crochet a baby hat from you tube, but didn't win. Knitting them instead. I love cross stitch and dont' do it enough. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, ten cats! Do they fight over your lap?

I smiled at 1500 kits and 1000 charts, is that just the starts for the UCJC?
